Fair and safe assessment

How applicants are selected

  1. Eligibility check: we confirm that the application is complete and within the published criteria.
  2. Needs assessment: reviewers consider urgency, safety, likely benefit, available alternatives and whether the request can be delivered responsibly.
  3. Confidential verification: we may request limited supporting information or, with the applicant’s explicit permission, contact a safe and appropriate reference.
  4. Decision and contact: we aim to contact the applicant within 48 hours using the safe method and times provided.

Verification is designed to prevent stigma without increasing risk. We will not unexpectedly contact family members, employers, landlords or community members, and we will not request passwords, bank PINs or exact safe-house locations.
